Sights of Macau – Lou Lim Ioc garden

lou lim ieoc garden

Lou Lim Ioc garden is a chinese garden in Macau that is shaped after the classical gardens of Suzhou. It was built by the wealthy 19th century Chinese merchant Lou Kau who passed it on to his son Lou lim Ioc in 1906. Later on, the garden fell into a state of disrepair due to neglect and was eventually bought over by the government. It was restored and opened to the public in 1974.

Lou lim Ioc garden is popular with the elderly and families with young children. People go there for walks, exercise, conversations with friends, a game of Chinese chess and fresh air. Families with young children also enjoy feeding the fishes and tortoises in the front lake. On many mornings, there is a group of retired Chinese opera musicians singing and performing near the lake. If they are performing, you will be able to hear them when you enter the gardens. Go ahead, find a place to seat and enjoy the music.
